Welcome to Radke Land!

May 9th, 2010. A memorial page can be found here.

9-9-08 Oh ... new stuff, but not for everyone. Some new sections have been added for my work at Woodcrest Church Children's Ministry, but these pages are 'locked down' (hopefully) for only those who are administrators or members of that group. I do work on the site ... just no reason for it to be a reasonably time-consuming hobby yet.

Ok, this page is destined for a major re-write. Most of the email help pages are in, and the skeleton of the rest of the 'main' pages are in. Have a look around, register if you like, and leave comments wherever you like (being registered allows you to leave comments without them having to be approved). See the bottom of the page for recent changes. Have fun!

Radkeland.org is a full (not yet) service ISP for family members. Things are moving along nicely. The following are some ideas about the eventual goals of the service:

  • E-mail hosting (permanent e-mail address)
  • Domain Hosting (serve DNS for your domain)
  • Website hosting (Note that I am not particularly good at creating 'pretty' things, so you need to provide the content!)
  • FTP service, configured to put each user's website to the right place.
  • Complete Content Management system, and hosting for those wishing to use one as well.
  • *drum roll* ... Media hosting, serving, and intelligent database management. This may be able to be handled by the new CMS ... as always, I'm still learning!

And ... here is the current state of affairs:

  • Web server is running (obviously, if you are seeing this page)
  • DNS is working, 2 domains are hosted.
  • E-Mail is working! No passwords are sent in clear text, and the entire session between your client and here is encrypted. This is pretty exciting, and allows you to access your (permanent) e-mail from anywhere, with the same folder structure, messages, etc. Contact me to get started, or just wait awhile until I get the real help pages up for configuring your e-mail client.
  • The FTP server is up and running! Note that FTP service is only configured for those few users that will require access to upload their websites.
  • There is current no backup system in place. We are awaiting replacement for our original backup drive. Data is still relatively secure, since the entire filesystem is on a raid1. Update: The person I asked to RMA the original backup disk sent it to the wrong address with the wrong RMA number ... it's stuck in limbo, though I'm working with Newegg to get this resolved.

The paragraph that lived here is definitely outdated with my discovery of CMS's. I'm currently working on installing and doing some basic configuration of Drupal (pronounced Droople). This thing is awesome, but of course has a learning curve.

Content, content, content! I've been steadily adding one to three pages a day, and I hope to keep this up until all of the basic static content is in place. Get your own website account if you want to add comments to pages ... it would be most appreciated!

Sweet! Virtual domain hosting for email has been reconfigured, and is working beautifully. Only registered addresses in virtual domains accept email, and the RFC required (and suggested) addresses are in place, including missing users handling.

We do have two domains already hosted. The pages are still in active development, but feel free to look at:
Bass Wacker Tackle
Rapid Bass Fishing

Feel free to contact me by phone or email me.

This server currently will forever run only free (as in freedom) software.
